My father was born in East Texas and moved to Kiblah as a young man. The story that I received was that my grandfather Zachariah Banks had been a slave in Macon, Georgia, and ran away and ended up in East Texas, out around Clarksville, and that area. He married my grandmother, who was a free black woman at the time, was one of the Edwards family.
They had a number of children: my uncle Zachariah, my aunt Ethe (short for Ethyleen), my aunt Esther, my dad Ernest, my uncle Samuel, and the baby of the family, my Aunt May. They moved to Kiblah when my dad was about 10 years old or preteen, and lived there until he met my mother, and that's how I came to be here.
