Hello, I work for Traditions of the Ancestors and I was asked to share my Covid 19 experience. Before I begin I want to first take a moment to thank all of the nurses, doctors, health care, grocery store workers, airline/airport workers, volunteers, police, firefighters, parents and many more for your sacrifice and support to keep us all safe and healthy during this pandemic.

My story begins with getting an email from my school saying that we all needed to evacuate and prepare to fly home. At the time I was studying in the Carribean and was cut off from a lot of the news coming in on the pandemic so to receive this email felt very odd to me. Looking back now I am thankful to the school for getting us out as quickly as they did and understanding the seriousness of the situation. My flight back home was about a day and a half long and there were some delays. At each stop I remember how different it was to see people in the airports with masks. Everyone was very hyper aware of each other and their surroundings.

Once I arrived home, due to my mother going through a medical complication at the time I was first sent to stay with my aunt for three weeks before seeing her. I am very grateful for my aunt and her willingness to let me into her home especially during this time. Now that I am back home I have been continuing school via online.

Before ending, I want to say that now is the time to be aware as ever of your health and safety and to those around you. And to those who have lost loved ones and friends I wish you healing and peace.

Thank you.
